The society collectively carries the blame for all ills that happens within it. For the bad ones in any given society carry their acts after studying their sorrounding keenly; what chances they have of getting away with their acts, the likely consequences should things go against them, and the probable public reaction in the event of such. It's not easy to find a drug peddler in Mecca, goes a common say. Not because the offence attracts death sentence in Saudi, but because the society as structured there would never tolerate it - from a common street struggler to the wealthiest of their wealthy. If only our societies, wherever they are, could apply the same to persona-destructive evils like rape, then the evil minded ones would be kept at bay. But, sadly, we often do exactly the opposite; our courts allows offenders to walk free, with countless cases dismissed on grounds of insuficient evidence, and we welcome the pests back in our midst. And at times we doubt the victim, even blame them.. Our societies mothers all our evils!

What a piece of treatise! I loved the observation: "the best and most important things are free, but to enjoy them one must be free from unnecessary incumberance." I enjoyed reading the article. It provided food for thought to my retreat in Zanzibar, where I currently am, having escaped the pool of chaos Nairobi is. I marvelled at the precision with which you disected Thoreau's thoughts. It tells me your claws are moving from sharp to sharper in the field of political science. Think on, friend.

Hey, Mica!

For me the most tragic part of your story is that nobody believes you.

I sincerely hope that you can focus this anger into Art, become some sort of artist, rather than allowing your anger to fester as a kind of unproductive neurosis. (Creating art is the best way I know to run away from my own problems.)

Don’t know if you have any interest; but you already have the necessary tools to write a novel about your essential situation, should you choose. You have the emotional drive (the anger) + the literary chops (competence with words, including a certain flair).

May I suggest a Default Plot? (Every writer has a different method. What works for me is to brainstorm for a month or two, compiling bits or riffs I want to cram into the novel, stealing shreds from my heroine & hero writers . Then I put together a Default Plot: what my novel will be about if I can’t think of anything better. Of course, the moment I start the First Draft, I immediately think of improvements and new possible directions; so the Default Plot changes as I write.)

What about a heroine similar to yourself who goes through a life experience similar to your own but who is so devastated that she turns suicidal, and realizes that the only way she will survive is to confront her gang-rapist. Somehow she sets a trap for him, captures him, castrates him, releases him. Either now nobody believes him, or he is too ashamed at having his balls surgically removed that he says nothing.

Sounds like a hit novel to me.
